Corruption

STOP ABUSE

When corruption becomes an accepted way of life and is viewed as a means to an end, everyone loses and no amount of crime-fighting initiatives and efforts can succeed. Click here to find out what JPSA is doing about this virulent disease.

JPSA Eyewitness Programme

Errant drivers don't just happen, they are bred. When one thinks that you are invincible, you are far more likely to behave badly than if you have been made aware of the fact that you are made of flesh and blood.

JMPD ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES - Again!

When it became apparent that the JMPD had once again been setting up illegal and unauthorised camera speed traps in Bergbron, West Rand, JPSA has published details of this activity here.

After it was exposed that the JMPD have been trapping illegaly in Gordon Road, Bergbron, West Rand, Johannesburg and the resultant enquiries we have had from the public, we have decided to show examples of the sites involved.

Below is the site claiming to be GORDON RD EAST TUS/BTW BERGBRON LN/DR & LANGE LN/AVE (travelling east - towards Newlands) which in fact shows the vehicle travelling west, towards the N1 freeway. You can click on the image for an enlarged view.

The JMPD have publically committed to submit an "internal representation" to withdraw all of these fines (and those in the other direction) and refund motorists who have already paid them, after publicly acknowledging that they were in fact "illegal".

What they have not said is when. Don't hold your breath!

Footnote: We have asked the JMPD for a full list of their approved sites and Wayne Minnaar has responded:

"I would realy like to be able to make that information available to you if I could , but the Director Of Public Prosecutions has issued a directive that the information of sites may not be disclosed . When it comes to mobile navigation systems , the JMPD does not want to authorise the use of such systems , as such systems have the capability of disturbing the operations of speed equipment ."

It is such a pity that the JMPD's understanding of their own equipment does not enable them to know and understand that Laser and GPS cannot possibly affect one another - ever! Does this statement mean that the JMPD intends banning the use of GPS Navigation devices? If it does, it may finally get sued silly by big world players like Garmin, TomTom, RoadAngel and the like for loss of revenue.

So much for transparency. What this says is "we don't want to get caught engaging in illegal activities... over and over again". Nothing more, nothing less! We will see what happens - there is always the "Promotion of Access to Information Act".
